The story of the Bible is the story of redemption. We were slaves to sin and destined for death but Jesus gave His life in exchange for ours and now we can have eternal life with Him in Heaven forevermore if we accept that substitutionary gift of salvation on our behalf. If you are saved than we no longer live for ourselves but for the One who rescued us from hell.
Since we have been redeemed from the death penalty by Jesus we belong to Him. We are stewards of our ourselves and our possesions which really belong to God. The Christian concept of stewardship is that God owns everything and we have been given whatever we have so we can manage it for Him.
In Luke 12:42-46 is a parable with two very different possible endings given. From these two endings we will see some important lessons on how to be a faithful steward. This parable doesn’t detail what the Faithful steward did right it just says that he was doing what he was supposed to do. But if we contrast the faithful steward with the unfaithful one we find three things that the unfaithful guy did wrong and obviously the faithful steward did right.
