Lens of Prophecy Pt. 5
2/9/08

There are few things that are so universally feared as seeing police lights in your rear view mirror. When I see someone else pulled over I automatically assume they broke the law. One night I was trying to find a friend's home in a city that I'd never been to before and the directions had me totally baffled. I found myself way out in the country and I'd made so many turns that I had lost my sense of direction. Finally, totally exasperated, I pulled off the road by a power substation to get a better look at my map. As I did, I saw a police car coming down the road and pull in behind me. "Ah ha!" I thought, "I can ask him for directions-he should know!" so I turned on my dome light and held my map a little higher hoping he'd get out and investigate. Sure enough, pretty soon I saw his flashing lights turn on and he got out. I remember thinking it was strange that I was not at all afraid of his lights. By the time he got to my window, he had seen my map and figured out that I was lost. He gave me directions and I drove right to the house. I imagine that if someone had been driving by they would have thought that I was a law breaker instead of a seeker. Sometimes God's judgment is feared and misunderstood too. Many people think that the judgment is when God will weigh all your good works against all your bad deeds and decide whether He'll let you into Heaven or not. But is this view Biblical.
