A Sinner in the Line of Christ
9/1/07

In 1 Corinthians 10:11 Paul tells us that the reason God inspired the Old Testament stories to be written is for our admonition. This sermon is part of a series of sermons on the well-known Old Testament stories--Ancient Stories/Modern Lessons. I pray that God will reveal some new truths to us through these old, well-known, stories.

This is the story of a prostitute-innkeeper who helped out some Israelite spies. In those days inns and prostitution went hand in hand. Rahab was an innkeeper who provided an immoral "service" to her guests. This lady of ill-repute already living in the wicked city of Jericho chose to believe in God's power and to serve Him instead of following her own way of life.

I imagine that Rahab may have wondered some of the same things that we wonder today when we've been forgiven and baptized. "Does the God of the Israelites really fully forgive? Will He fully accept an outsider? Maybe He overlooks sin but you're still in a lesser position after you've repented. He might let me in by the skin of my teeth but I'm sure He'll see me as a second class citizen."

This sermon answers those questions.

Key Passage: Joshua 2:1-16
