Keep!
11/12/05

Let's say you and I are going on a trip to Sissonville, West Virginia. We pack all the essentials grab the road atlas and head out. After stopping at the gas station, we choose not to look at the map instead we decide just head east since we've heard that West Virginia is east of us hoping that we'll eventually find our Sissonville. We probably would never get there! The fact that we kept the map in the car wouldn't do us any good unless we took it out, studied the rout and then followed it's directions.

Today we want to explore what it means to "keep God's words or commandments"

Our focus is on the word "keep." The Greek word here is (pronounced tay-reh'-o). It means, "to guard (from loss or injury, properly by keeping the eye upon)"[1]

The form of the verb implies habitual keeping or observance of the admonitions of this book[2]. If we want the blessing promised we should habitually "keep an eye on" the truths found here in. Christian Flow Chart It signifies a lifestyle that allows God's words to permeate all aspects of our life and character; just like a mothball permeates everything in a closet (except it doesn't stink!). It's not enough just to have a Bible with you or even to read it you must keep or guard it in your life.

Key Passage: Revelation 1:3
