In today's first person sermon we will meet Barabbas: the man who's place Jesus took. We don't know whether or not Barabbas ever understood the significance of what happened that day when the crowds chose him over Jesus but for the sake of this sermon we will imagine that he did.
Barabbas is an excellent example of what salvation means to us. He was condemned to die on a cross, he should have been the one crucified that day, but Jesus died in his place. It's intriguing to notice that the name “Barabbas” simply means “son of a father”. We can all identify with a man by that name. We are all either a son or daughter of a father. So as you read about Barabbas (son of a father) you can easily imagine yourself in his place, condemned to death (because of your sin) and set free because of Jesus' death (although He was innocent).
