The air was electric with anticipation. Shouts of “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord” rang out through the crowd. As the Man riding the colt passed, people took off their cloaks and spread them, along with palm branches, on the path so the donkey wouldn't even have to touch the ground.
This was a time when rejoicing seemed imperative, Even Jesus said that if the people stopped praising the rocks would do it. But even as Jesus was being honored as the King, as He drew near Jerusalem He began to weep bitterly.
Does this story have application to us today? After all, this happened in a different time in a different city and He wept over different people. But I think if we look at why He wept back then, we can answer the important question, “Would He weep today if He looked upon my hometown or at me?”
