2006 is the year of the unknown. Many things will happen that we know nothing about and have no way to prepare for. Of course we could have said the same about 2005 or any year. The fact is that we don't know what will happen in the future and there is no way we can plan for it.
At this time people make predictions or prophecies for the upcoming year. For some reason, even though they almost never come true, these people get paid millions for doing it. If these "prophets" were reliable then Fidel Castro would have filed personal lawsuit against President Bush in Miami federal court alleging that the president slandered him on network TV in October 2005! The predictions are almost comical! Obviously this is not a reliable source of truth to rely on.
Even the most trustworthy of parents will, at some time or another, let their kids down. Friends are a great gift from God but if we rely on them for the future we'll find that they don't have the power to get us through.
So whom can we trust in this new year of unknowns? We're left with but one solid option-God. But relying on God isn't a passive, oh well, attitude. It means actively following Him and trusting that He will see to your future.

This week we'll find out how to actively rely on God.
