1P01 New Birth --A Stranger in Your Own Hometown4/28/07

Part 1, NEW BIRTH

Have you ever felt like a stranger when you were around your own kin? Since I moved so many times in my childhood I find a strange phenomenon at family reunions. Here are all these people that I’m related to and yet I don’t know them and, aside from a few physical characteristics, I don’t have much in common with them; I feel like a stranger in my own hometown. If you’re a Christian chances are that you’ve felt the same way before. In fact this is a theme that runs through the Bible book of 1 Peter.

Today we begin a sermon series on 1 Peter. Our goal is to discover how to live in this world as we wait to go Home.

Key Passage: 1 Peter 1:1-12

Maintaining Messiah's Mission4/14/07

Today, Seventh-day Adventist churches around the world are highlighting just one of many ministries that maintain the Messiah’s mission: Christian Record Services. Christians involved in this ministry are able to preach the Good News and recovery of Spiritual sight to the blind and help to free them from the prison of hopelessness and isolation that many blind people feel they are in.

It may be that the Spirit wants to empower some here to volunteer their time, talents, and/or assets to this ministry for the blind. Whether He’s calling you to work through CRS or some other ministry, we can be sure that God wants to channel His supernatural power through each of us for His service.

Is the Spirit of the Lord on you today?
What is He anointing you to do for Him?

Key Passage: Luke 4:16-21

Get It?

Get It4/7/07

It’s easy to look down on many Biblical characters who just didn’t seem to get it. I mean, why were the disciples so dashed when Jesus died on the cross when He had told them time and again that this would happen but that He would rise on the 3rd day? But sometimes I wonder, if I was around in Jesus’ day, would I get it? Do I really get it even today? Sometimes it’s easier to apply the gospel with a broad brush—He died for the sins of the whole world—than to focus on the detail—He died for me specifically.

Key Passage: 1 Timothy 1:12-16
